How To Get The Most Out Of Your Storyteller

Return to the Tips & Tricks Archive.
Something that I strive for in this game is openness. I started running this thing because I love the game, and I love having this opportunity to play with my friends. I want to stress that, because I do consider everyone in the game a friend, and even though I may be running around at games I want to make the experience as fun as possible for everyone. So, I decided to write this up as a reference for how you can get the most out of your storyteller, or at least how you can get the most out of me.

Ask Your Storyteller Questions. Whether at a game or in downtimes, make sure you get your questions answered. I won? speak for any other Storytellers, but I don? have all the answers. If you think I? wrong, misinformed, or doing something I shouldn?, then let me know. I may have a great justification for something, or I may be wrong, but at least you?l know which it is. Also, while we may wish we could it is a sad truth that storytellers cannot read minds. As a result, we may not be aware that a decision we made pissed you off, so let us know.

Treat Everyone With Respect. I encourage openness in the game, but one thing I insist on is respect between players. Your characters may hate each other and be trying to kill one another, but the players shouldn? let that stop them from having a good time, quite the opposite. This is also true for Storytellers and players. While it is wonderful to ask questions it is not ok to accuse, or disrespect anyone in the game. This goes both ways, and if you ever feel like you are being disrespected please bring the matter to me, or if I am involved to another ST.

Use The Internet. As I mentioned earlier, I am often running around frantically at games, so I am not always as accessible as I would like to be at game sessions. If I don? have an opportunity to talk to you at a game, the best way to reach me is via im or email. Feel free to contact me any time, and if I? busy with work or something else I?l get back to you as soon as I can.

Share Your Ideas. If you aren? getting what you want out of the game, or you have an idea for a plot you think would be fun, then share it with the ST team. I can? guarantee that we?l end up using it, but we are happy to get input on the direction for the game and ideas for plots. This is a game for the players to have fun, and it makes sense that the players should be able to contribute to the direction of the game.
