He may be well-groomed and wearing hand-tailored fashions, but at the same time his mustache will be shaggy and his fingernails grime-encrusted from a night of digging through the dirt. Bio: Vernon Swearengen is sometimes called "Shovel Swearengen", because it's well known that he likes to dig up what other folks have buried. Born in 1854 in the newly-formed Nebraska Territory to a whore of a mother and a brutal cocksucker of a father, he spent his formative years wandering the American West, trying to find a way out of a life spent wandering from prairie town to prairie town.

His opportunity came when he hopped a ship bound for the Far East. He spent decades in Japan and China amongst Samurais and Celestials, where he saw many a sight not meant for the eyes of man, and learned a bit as well. Vernon is now known as one of the principle dealers in antiquities to the rich and discreet.
